HISTORY

RenewDC is an Anglican church planting movement centered in metro Washington. It began in 2003 with a vision for a network of evangelical Anglican churches throughout the greater metropolitan area. This vision developed out of a heart for the city and a sense of Gospel urgency: apart from Christ, the revitalization that was beginning to sweep across Washington would be merely cosmetic. We longed for more than a hollow, superficial renewal of Washington. We dreamed of healthy churches in every neighborhood, working together for a holistic, renewed city under the gracious reign of Jesus, the risen king. In 2004, the Church of the Resurrection (“Rez”) began meeting in a historic church building on Capitol Hill. Over several years, the church grew and matured, learning how to be a missional, worshipping community in the context of the nations capital. In 2007, a team from Rez planted the Church of the Advent in Columbia Heights uptown. Soon thereafter, another team planted the Church of the Ascension in Arlington. Since then, Advent, Ascension and Resurrection have worked together as a common witness in the city. Now in our second decade as a movement, we believe that God is calling us to a new season of collaborative church planting. We hope to plant a new congregation in 2014, and another in 2016.
