Rev. Dan Claire

ClairesOriginally from Florida, the Rev. Dan Claire moved to DC in 1999 to establish the Washington campus of Reformed Theological Seminary. At that time, he and his wife, Elise, started praying about church planting in DC. In 2003, the Church of the Resurrection began in their living room, and he has served as Rector ever since. Dan also teaches for the Trinity Forum Academy and the Simeon Fellowship for Pastoral Formation. He studied molecular biology and medicine at the University of Florida, divinity at RTS Orlando, and biblical studies at the Catholic University of America. Dan and Elise have five children.


Rev. Tommy Hinson

In late 2007, the Rev. Tommy Hinson joined with a group of men and women living in Columbia Heights to launch the Church of the Advent, where he now serves as Rector. In addition, Tommy works with his wife, Laura, making documentary films. He also helps lead the Simeon Fellowship for Pastoral Formation. Tommy previously lived in Boston, where his passion for urban renewal was born out of working with underserved populations as a mental health counselor. A North Carolina native, Tommy studied psychology at Furman University, and then received an M.Div. and an M.A. in counseling from Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Massachusetts. He and Laura have a two beautiful sons.

Rev. Blake Johnson


The Rev. Blake Johnson is Associate Rector at Church of the Advent.������Blake and his wife, Mary Ann, are from Tuscaloosa, Alabama where they both grew up, attended the University of Alabama, and were married in 2004. Blake received an M.A. in classics from the University of Kentucky and an M.T.S. from Nashotah House Theological Seminary. Before moving to Washington, Blake and Mary Ann worked together in small business. They are expecting their first child in June.


Rev. Matthew Mason


An Englishman by birth, the Rev. Matthew Mason is Associate Rector of Church of the Resurrection. He also serves on the faculty of Trinity Forum Academy ( and is a Fellow of the Center for Pastor Theologians ( Before moving to DC, Matthew studied at Oak Hill Theological College, and then served as an assistant pastor in the Church of England. He is married to Annabel, and they have two daughters.


Rev. Art Going

The Rev. Art Going is the Interim Rector of the Church of the Ascension. After 32 years as pastor and church planter in Lutheran and Anglican churches, Art joined the staff of Bishop Steve Breedlove as Archdeacon and Director of Ministries for PEARUSA in 2013. He is married to Dr. Nancy Going, youth ministry educator and interim executive director of Vibrant Faith Ministries; they have two adult children and four grandchildren. Art loves to cook, enjoys craft beer and wine, is passionate about bluegrass music, and always knows who’s pitching for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
